Me v. the Blog
I discovered last night that the blog goes down for maintenance. Unfortunately, that was after it ate my blog.
So, last night's blog was about Mom me v. writer me v. wife/friend/everything else me. You can imagine. Or maybe you don't want to. In any case, the good part was that I spent a great weekend being Mom me. My daughter and I went to see the Chanel exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was the last day of the exhibit and totally worth waiting in line. The dresses were stunning as was the glimpse of a woman who refused to be bound by the conventions of her time. After, we strolled through the museum and enjoyed the sites, especially the Temple of Dendar where we noted of all things - Graffiti!
On the way home, we stopped at Jersey Gardens for some great pre-birthday and pre-school buys! We had a great time just hanging together and shopping while hubby was at home, making Sunday dinner -- pasta, what else? He's Italian.
After that, back to writer me as I am plugging along on my fourth vampire book -- DEATH CALLS. This story returns to Diana and Ryder and explores where they are (or aren't) in their relationship after nearly two years of being together. I'm really intrigued by trying to show their romance from a totally different perspective -- namely one of loving enough to let go.
I was moving along fairly well, but got my revision letter from my editor. She's a great editor. Sharp and really on the money with her comments, so now I find myself going back through the story to make sure what I've done so far is in line with the revision letter. What is that Hemingway said? A writer writes and then rewrites?
Revisions have to be the hardest part of being a published writer, especially when your vision of the book drastically differs from that of your editor. It's always a balancing act to remain true to what you want to do while dealing with these requests. I've been blessed in my experiences so far by having truly supportive editors who've allowed me to push the limits.
More later . . .
