Tackling New Projects

Having just finished rewrites on my third vampire book, it's time to tackle something new and something different. I find that going from one kind of genre to another helps rejuvenate me and keeps my writing fresher. And since Phil the Groundhog saw his shadow and winter returned to New Jersey, I have a great excuse for settling myself down in my office this weekend and tackling that new project. As I mentioned before, I just accepted an offer from Pocket for a chick lit and have some idea of what I want to be the follow-up. Not really a chick lit, since it will be more about the mother of the heroine from TORI GOT LUCKY, but not really a mom lit since I plan on doing a lot of the chapters from the POV of the daughter.I'm hoping for something humorous as the daughter, Tori, deals with the fact that her parents are revisiting their earlier relationship. Also, something sexy for her mom, Virginia, since I want to show people how women of a certain age are more vibrant and sexy now than women of the same age a decade or so ago.Tackling that concept is going to be challenge, but I'm looking forward to it. As for how do I do it, I'm usually a seat of the pants just rush forward and the story will tell itself kind of writer.I'd be interested in hearing how others decide to try something new and different.
